I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how powerful it can be to let a colleague, teammate, or friend know:
“I see you.”
“You matter.”
“What you’re doing has value.”
These moments take less than five seconds.
– A Slack message acknowledging how well prepared someone was in a meeting
– A coach recognizing extra effort during practice
– A leader simply saying:
“You handled that really well.”
Individually, these moments can seem small. But over time, they compound psychologically. For me, micro-validations have genuinely helped keep me going.
If you’ve ever taken five seconds to tell me I led a meeting well, showed growth, or was making progress in the gym — it mattered more than you probably realized.
Those moments shaped me. They gave me energy to keep going.
For athletes, micro-validations can reinforce identity and resilience during periods of self-doubt, injury, inconsistent performance, or intense competition.
And in the corporate world, where many people operate under constant pressure from both above and below, a single moment of acknowledgment can restore confidence, energy, and a sense of purpose.
What makes micro-validations so powerful is that they don’t just recognize performance.
They reinforce belief in oneself.
The best leaders and coaches I’ve known consistently notice and name the good in people — often before those people fully see it in themselves.
❓Who’s up for taking five seconds today to let someone know they are seen?
