I took this photo a couple of weeks ago while hiking along Minnesota’s North Shore.
These tiny wildflowers made me think.
Delicate, beautiful, growing from cracks in solid rock.
No rich soil, no perfect conditions. Just enough space to take root.
I found myself wondering what those flowers had to teach me.
The older I get, the more I notice how often good things at work begin when we’re not standing on solid ground.
The big risk at Target.
The all-nighter at McKinsey.
Helping build something new at AWS when the path wasn’t clear.
None of those moments felt comfortable and none of them felt certain.
And yet, something good came from each one.
Some of the most beautiful things in life don’t grow in the soft soil.
They grow in the cracks.
In the space between certainty and possibility.
In the moments when we’re stretched, unsure, and figuring it out as we go.
Maybe the cracks in our lives aren’t signs that we’re breaking.
Maybe they’re the very places where something beautiful is beginning to grow.
I’m curious what this brings up for you.
Have you experienced something beautiful grow when not standing on solid ground?
